In my 40+ years as a licensed medical doctor (MD), I’ve practiced in many capacities including ship doctor, trauma surgeon, acupuncturist, volunteer surgeon with Medecins sans Frontieres (MSF) and medical/crisis worker at dozens of festivals. Yet the wisdom I gleaned from psychedelics beginning in my teenage years in the late 1960s has informed the entire journey. Now I complete the cycle by practicing psychedelic medicine in Oregon with the goal of offering end-of-life and spiritual support to those in need.
INITIATIVE RULES: Navigating the Path between Hype and Promise in Oregon
The US state of Oregon has entered its second full year of providing guided psilocybin journeys to clients from around the globe. This presentation aims to report our experience from multiple perspectives. My involvement includes teaching pharmacology/neuroscience modules for facilitator training programs, serving as a licensed facilitator and offering medical consultations to clients and facilitators with an emphasis on harm reduction. Psilocybin remains illegal in the USA but our hope is that by providing safe and therapeutic journeys to clients, this revolutionary medicine will be made available to a wider population.
