Altered states, altered minds: Implications of DMT entity encounters for basic science and mental health
N,N-DMT experiences underscore the impact of psychedelics on personal beliefs, highlight the divergence between Indigenous and scientific knowledge, and raise questions about the ontological status of DMT entities. Regardless of the interpretation, DMT entity encounters have significant multidisciplinary implications. If DMT entities are hallucinations, their intersubjective characteristics require rethinking the nature of the human mind within science. If they are perceptions, they also require reconceptualising reality across disciplines. Additionally, messages from DMT entities may offer practical value. This presentation explores DMT entity encounters, illustrating how altered states of consciousness can lead to altered metaphysical beliefs and altered mental health.
