Akua Ofosuhene joined Breaking Convention in 2024 as our Stalls Coordinator where she manages the organisations and vendors in our market place. She has presented multiple times on the panafrican sessions at previous Breaking Conventions. In addition to this role, Akua advises parents dealing with the effects of grooming and gang activity, as well as assisting them on intentions and integration whilst healing themselves first and working with psychedelic medicines. Akua has worked with people who have come out of high-demand organisations and religions, prisons and other coercive control situations.
Akua works as a psychedelic guide, working 1-to-1 with clients and running retreats in Ghana, Portugal and Gran Canaries Canaria. Akua's story with psychedelics began 8 years ago after her teenage son was groomed into a drug dealing ring while at school. The shame and guilt brought on depression, high blood pressure and a cancer scare. Although the police, and youth services were 'doing their best', Akua realised that outdated institutional practices were not working. She had to find a different way.
Akua learned about psychedelic medicines, alternative healing modalities and African spirituality. By putting these together, she was able to treat her depression and eventually get her son out of the drug dealing ring. Akua is founder of African Spiritual Practices events and Co founder of Hub and Culture Cooperative Popup shops. Akua is a public speaker and advocate of individual therapeutic uses of psychedelics.
