Following the stellar success of Breaking Convention from 2011-2019, the technicolor flag of international psychedelia will be hoisted once again in 2021.

Breaking Convention is primarily a volunteer-run enterprise and would not exist without direct support from people willing to give their time in order to be involved with this vital subject.

If you wish to become involved in Breaking Convention 2021, please write to us using one of the forms below.  Please make sure that you use the correct form and provide all necessary fields.

Student essay competition entry

We would like to announce the opening of submissions for the next round of our highly prestigious Student Essay Awards. This is a fantastic opportunity for all postgraduate students studying within the field of psychedelics.

In recognition of the importance of those recognized by this award, we have increased its value in addition to a place on the 2021 Breaking Convention conference programme as an invited speaker, each of the six winners’ prizes has grown from £500 to £1,000!

There will be an award given for an original student essay or research report in the three categories of Social Science, Humanities and Science for both 2020 and 2021, making six awards in total.

The winning essay/reports will be submitted by a confirmed enrolled Masters or Doctoral student, relevant to psychedelics, and within the student’s field of study. Student essays submitted by the end of this year will be considered for the 2020 award, and those submitted from 1st January 2021 to April 1st 2021 will be considered for the 2021 award. Get your pens to paper!

Submissions will only be considered if they are within the word limit of 3,000–4,000 words (excluding bibliography) and sent as an attachment in RTF (use 'save as' instead of 'save' in your word processor). Entries must be sent using the naming convention of SEAYearCategorySurname.rtf (e.g. SEA2020SocialScienceAdams.rtf).

Please paste your essay web link (google doc etc) in the text pane below.
Click the button to upload your essay in rich-text format (RTF) only; the file will be included when you submit the form.
